Led by our minister, Tom Rosiello and our DRE, Michele Cote, this service will be oriented towards our children. We will have lots of them participating as we act out the Christmas Story and create a Christmas Tableau. Our Junior Choir and Youth Choir will be performing, and there will be familiar carols for all to sing. We will conclude this service with the traditional candle-lighting ceremony.

FAMILY SERVICE
We will dispel the darkness of the season with lively music and the presentation of our Annual
Mummer’s Play under the direction of Pat Sorn. This is a great family service with lots of children

The Christmas story is a sweet story of the birth of a child and his promise for the future, but embedded in that story are some powerful messages about exclusion, inequality, power, class and peace. This morning we will look at Christmas through a social justice lens. Music will be under the direction of Mike Pfitzer at both services.

Christmas Vespers Service
We will gather in our beautiful candle lit sanctuary for this service of beautiful music and spoken words. The featured music will be Messiah Part I sung by our wonderful choir under the direction of Mike Pfizer and guest soloists Lindsay Conrad, soprano, Caitlin Felsman, mezzo-soprano, and Zachary Ballard, baritone. The choir will be accompanied by Malcolm Halliday, organist, and string players. There will also be an organ prelude and everyone will be invited to sing both a familiar carol and to join in the singing of The Hallelujah Chorus. This is a very special service and offered as a holiday gift to the entire community. Please join us and bring your friends and neighbors.

Most of us are "doers" and patiently waiting does not come easy for us. Perhaps you consider "just waiting" to be a waste of your time but it can be the center of a powerful spiritual practice. The season of Advent is a time of spiritual waiting. In spoken words and beautiful music of the season we will explore this message.

Hanukkah is a Jewish festival commemorating the historic rededication of the Temple after a long period of religious persecution; but what does it mean to remember the Temple's deliverance 2,000 years after its destruction? We will look at what Hanukkah has to say to all of us about the lights of hope, community, and dedication in an all-too-dark world.

INTERGENERATIONAL SERVICE
Together as an inter-generational community we will give thanks. We will sing traditional Thanksgiving hymns and be treated to a bounty of beautiful music from our FPC choirs and musicians of all Ages. Our minister, Tom Rosiello, assisted by our director of religious education as well as children and youth will lead the service. It will include the traditional ritual of breaking and sharing of bread which will be baked for us by the junior youth group.

We will celebrate the bounty of the harvest and give thanks for the many blessings bestowed upon us. We will also acknowledge that both at the individual level and the level of our society, there are things for which we do not feel grateful. We will explore how we can live "grateful lives" even in times of struggle. Our vesper service includes the lighting of candles, readings, sharing, music and silence. This 45 minute service is the perfect way to end a busy day, and prepare yourself for a more meaningful Thanksgiving. The service will be led by The Rev. Tom Rosiello.

In addition to the regular elements of our worship service, this morning our message will be presented in the form of a 30 minute musical play about Unitarian Universalism called, "FLAMING CHALICE," by David Burrows. Our performers will include more than 30 youth and adults from our congregation as well as our choirs and talented musicians. You won’t believe what a talented congregation we have! Prayer is an important religious practice in many faith traditions. Some Unitarian Universalists make prayer part of their spiritual life while others are uncomfortable with it. Prayer means many different things to different people. For some, it is asking God for intervention in their life, while for others it is the contemplation of one's life from the highest point of view (paraphrasing Emerson). Do you pray? Would prayer be a meaningful practice in your life? We will explore these questions in a service led by Rev. Tom Rosiello. Both services will have beautiful music and the Adult Choir will be singing an arrangement of the great spiritual, "Every time I Flee the Spirit" at the 11 AM service. There will also be an opportunity for those who would like to join First Parish to do so during both services.
